Memories of the 1938 Empire Exhibition

This project is part of the House for an Art Lover Heritage Programme and documents the memories and experiences of those who attended the Empire Exhibition in 1938.

The recordings contain the personal stories and anecdotes of people who attended the exhibition as children, teenagers or young adults.

Our Heritage Centre contains an archive with information, objects and images of the 1938 Empire Exhibition. Some of these objects are displayed with the recordings, along with items generously lent to us by members of the public.

We are grateful to those who volunteered their time and allowed their memories to be recorded so that those listening can experience the 1938 Empire Exhibition for themselves.

Special thanks to Balmanno Care Home and Laura Gallacher.
